Benefield Funeral Home was established in 1972 by Donald E. Benefield. Mr. Benefield graduated from Dallas Institute, in Dallas, Texas in 1954 and was employed by R. Jay Kraeer Funeral Home in Pompano Beach, Florida for 15 years. Don then returned home to Wedowee, Alabama and established Benefield Funeral Home. From the beginning, Don’s motto has been “giving service above self.” This creed has been embraced by all present-day staff members, and it's rare to find a more caring and compassionate group of funeral service professionals.
Mr. Benefield hand-picked Randy Gibbs as his successor, primarily because he was convinced Randy would work hard to maintain the funeral home's excellent reputation in the community. He sold the funeral home in 1994 and agreed to serve as manager for a transitional period. Now enjoying an active life outside his funeral career, Mr. Benefield continues to serve Wedowee by virtue of his part-time work at the funeral home. Furthermore, he is pleased to be able to say that the firm he founded has always been family owned and operated.
Benefield Funeral Home is one of two funeral homes in Randolph County owned by Randy and Tammy Gibbs, who are involved on a full-time basis with both firms. Benefield Funeral Home is currently under the management of Mr. Terry Sparks, who has over 24 years of experience in funeral service and is committed to carrying on the same traditions of dignity and professionalism established by Mr. Benefield over 35 years ago.
