Obituary of Velma Puckett Milam

Funeral services for Velma “Mother” Puckett Milam, age 90, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Waldrop and Rev. Donald Spradlin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Grove Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-900 PM on Friday, May 1, 2015. Ms. Milam passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at her residence. Survivors include: seven children, Shirley Gray, Marvolene Holloway, Ben Milam (wife, Shelia), Vanieca Akins (husband, Dwight), Tim Milam (wife, Peggy), Randy Milam (wife, Marcela), and Sonya Mitchell (husband, Kenneth); 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ms. Milam’s 12 grandsons. A Randolph County native, Ms. Milam was born on June 26, 1924, the daughter of Cicero and Reva Holloway Puckett. She was a charter member of Mt. Grove Baptist Church and worked as a spinner for Adlee Mills. Ms. Milam was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Marie Mitchell, Pearlene Ogle, and Mary Pate; four brothers, Doug Puckett, Curtis Puckett, Eurtis Puckett, and Riley Puckett; one grandchild, Eric Akins.
