Graveside services for Cecil A. Whatley, Jr., age 74, of Wedowee, will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Emery officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-1:30 PM on Sunday, July 12, 2015. Mr. Whatley passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015, at his residence. Survivors include five daughters, Beebe Lou Chappell of Oxford, Bonnie Suzanne Hicks of Roanoke, Belinda Jolene Johns of Roanoke, Hazel Kimberly Whatley of Auburn, and April Whatley Rowe of Roanoke; one son, Cecil A. Whatley III of Woodland; ten grandchildren, Chan Bassett, Cami Nelson, Richard Kirby, Page Brooks, John Simons, Will Johns, Makayla Whatley, Abi Whatley, Jake Farias, and Isabella Whatley; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kay Whatley Richardson of Mississippi. Pallbearers will be John Simons, Jessie Simons, Matthew Tankersley, James Neal, Jake Farias, Dwight Rowe, and Jacob Reynolds. A Lee County native, Mr. Whatley was born on July 29, 1940, the son of Cecil A. Whatley, Sr. and Hazel Davis Whatley. He served in the United States Air Force and had also been employed in the carpentry business. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jimmie Lou Whatley; and one brother, Dan Whatley.
