Obituary of Billy Joel Murphy

Funeral services for Billy Joel Murphy, age 77, of Woodland will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Church of Christ with Bro. Tim Eldridge and Bro. Brad Prince officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 04, 2015. Mr. Murphy will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday. Mr. Murphy passed away Monday, August 3, 2015, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Linda Daniel Murphy of Woodland; one daughter, Paige Murphy of Woodland; five sons, Victor Murphy of Hoover, Jeff Murphy, Ricky Murphy, Chad Murphy, and Jason Murphy, all of Woodland; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Anne Bagley of Oxford and Carolyn McWhorter of Mableton, GA; three brothers, Bryant Murphy of Eastaboga, Franklin Murphy and Leron Murphy, both of Newell; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Blake Murphy, Michael Knight, Riley Murphy, Reed Murphy, Andrew Murphy, and Seth Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be H.G. Miles, Spencer Murphy, Neal Harrington, Phillip Murphy, and Wayne Messer. A lifelong Randolph County resident, Mr. Murphy was born on October 3, 1937, the son of Joe Lee and Lilar Cosper Murphy. He was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ and was a mechanic for Bremen-Bowdon Investment Company for 37 years. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clay Murphy; three brothers, Theron Murphy, Robert Murphy, and Julian Murphy; and one sister, Clorea Allen.
