Funeral services for Sammie Faye Stewart, age 78, of Woodland will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Bear Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Jacob Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, November 27, 2015. Mrs. Stewart will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday. Mrs. Stewart passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015, at her residence. Survivors include: one daughter, LouAnn Whitley (husband, Mark) of Woodland; two sons, Phil Stewart (wife, Joyce) and Eddie Stewart, both of Woodland; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Floy Chapman of Newell and Elaine Clopton of Ranburne; and one brother, Charles Smith of Carrollton. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Stewart’s grandsons. A long-time Woodland resident, Mrs. Stewart was born in Cleburne County on November 13, 1937, the daughter of Anderson Jethro and Bessie Faye Walker Smith. She was a member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church and was self-employed with Heart of Dixie Gas. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jeff Sanders Stewart; and two brothers, Wilson and Milton Smith.
