Funeral services for Major Ray “M.R.” Wilson of Woodland will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at 3:00 PM from the Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Methodist Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00-7:00 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2016. Mr. Wilson passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at his residence after a brief illness. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Nancy ; cherished daughter & son-in-law, Jeni and Ben Jordan of Hoover; father-in-law, Bob Crumbley of Wedowee; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Chris May, Jeff Fuller, George Diamond, Ben Jordan, Don Thomas, and Mark Brown. A Randolph County native, Mr. Wilson was born on December 28, the son of William Kaylor and Estelle Langley Wilson. He was a member of East Napoleon Church of Christ and was President of United Auto Workers Local 34, Atlanta, Georgia, and a national contract negotiator. Mr. Wilson was a Master Mason, Yorkrite, Scottish Rite, and 33rd degree Shriner. He enjoyed bluegrass/country music, Alabama football, politics, and was a life-long Democrat. Mr. Wilson’s kind and generous nature was evident to all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved first wife, Gwen Bailey Wilson; four sisters, Geneva Wilson, Mittie Wilson, Dora Mae Beckworth, and Nora Belle Jones; and four brothers, Kager Wilson, Bryant Wilson, Lamon Wilson, and Newell Wilson. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to Shriners.org.
