Mrs. Brown passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Majestic Senior Living Center in Bowdon, Georgia. Survivors include: three daughters, Joyce Edmondson (husband, Travis) of Woodland, Yvonne Rampy (husband, Crouch) of Woodland, and Elaine Lovvorn (husband, Hal) of Bowdon; eight grandchildren, Denise Daniel, Philip Rampy, Gib Grooms, Maria Blanchard, David Edmondson, Gina Grooms, Doug Grooms (wife, Denise), and Eric Grooms (wife, Natalie); 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Philip Rampy, Gib Grooms, David Edmondson, Doug Grooms, Eric Grooms, and Lucas Jack. A Woodland native, Mrs. Brown was born on February 4, 1917, the daughter of Mathew Earnest and Bela Shelnutt Crenshaw. She married the love of her life, Lewis M. Brown in 1932 and thrived as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Church of Christ and worked as a dietician for the Randolph County Board of Education. Mrs. Brown was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and a servant to others. Nothing brought her greater joy than demonstrating the love of Christ through her gift of hospitality. She lived by the wisdom found in Scripture: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men (Colossians 3:23). There were two things Mrs. Brown always had in abundance – good stories and scrumptious home-cooking. Her fried apple pies had a reputation for being some of the best in the South – so much so they were often rivaled over among the grandkids at family gatherings! When sharing stories, she could always lend a new perspective based on her age and memorable life experiences, as she witnessed many changes in technology, industry, and culture over her lifetime. Mrs. Brown had a competitive nature, enjoying games and challenges of all kinds. Whether she was playing family games like dominoes, rook, or Bingo or participating in an Easter egg hunt, she was playing to win! She was a loyal fan of Alabama football and especially enjoyed the “glory days” with Bear Bryant. Her sports interests also included Atlanta Braves baseball. An avid quilter, Mrs. Brown could often be found working happily around her frame creating colorful masterpieces for family and friends. Another favorite place for Mrs. Brown was the rocker on her front porch, where she spent time preparing vegetables from her garden to can. She was content to enjoy the simple but fulfilling things in life like faith, family and laughter. And if you had the fortune of knowing Mrs. Brown for very long, you’d discover a lively sense of humor behind her sparkling blue eyes – and maybe even get in on a practical joke or two! Mrs. Brown loved spending time with her family and especially delighted in the company of children. One of child-like faith herself, she never grew “old” in her 99 years on Earth. She maintained a cheerful and thankful heart, and out of the abundance of her heart she spread life to all whom she encountered. The legacy of love she leaves behind will be treasured for generations to come. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis M. Brown; and 11 brothers and sisters. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to Mt. Carmel Church of Christ or the Hospice organization of your choice.
