Obituary of James Michael Gilliland

Funeral services for Mike Gilliland, age 65, of Wedowee will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at 2:00 PM from Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Corky Addison and Rev. Donald Spradlin officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Mr. Gilliland passed away Sunday May 29, 2016 at Regional medical Center in Anniston. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Delana Laney Gilliland, children, Jennifer Barber (Paul), Johnathon Gilliland (Melissa) and Susan Yarbrough all of Roanoke, Eleven Grandchildren, One Great Grandchild, Three brothers, Joe and Randy Gilliland of Roanoke, and Richard Gilliland of Robertsdale, Al. Two Sisters, Pat Smith of Penton, Al. and Jane Williams of Roanoke, and host of nieces , nephews and very special friends. Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Jamie Treadwell, Richard McCormick, Cody Laney, Cory Laney and Tyler Laney. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Randolph County Rescue Squad and Roanoke Cruisers Car Club. A LaFayette, Alabama native, Mr. Gilliland was born on July 11, 1950, the son of James M. Gilliland and Helen Burgess Gilliland. He lived most of his life in Randolph County and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, a United States Marine Corp Veteran of Vietnam from 1968 to 1970, He was an avid classic car enthusiast and a member of Roanoke Cruisers Car Club and a member of the Randolph County Rescue Squad.
