Funeral services for George Willard Gibbs, age 82, of Glencoe will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017, at 2:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel in Wedowee with Terry Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at Cleburne Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Friday, February 24 before services begin. Mr. Gibbs passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at McGuffey Health Care in Gadsden, Alabama. Survivors include: three children, Kelly Gibbs (Randee) of Argo, Alan Gibbs (Kim) of Glencoe, and Marisa Gibbs of Glencoe; seven grandchildren, Chad Gibbs (Tricia), Ashleigh Ashley (Beau), David Gibbs (Jaclyn), Nathan Gibbs (Ashley), Amber Read, Lindsey Walsh (Bruce), and Natalie Humphrey (Kevin); 12 great-grandchildren, Garrett, Morgan, Chandler, Linus, Oliver, Maverick, Samantha, Liam, Allie, Lily Kate, Mia and K. J.; and three brothers, Tilman Gibbs (Dell) of Ranburne, Bill Gibbs (Kathryn) of Ranburne, and Stanley Gibbs of Bowdon, GA. Pallbearers will be Mr. Gibbs’ nephews and grandsons. A Ranburne native, Mr. Gibbs was born on February 9, 1935, the son of Walter Newton Gibbs, Sr., and Minnie Pearl McElroy Gibbs. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard of Alabama and was a former Mayor and Councilman for the city of Glencoe. Mr. Gibbs was the owner of George’s Junk-Shun until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanzetta Gibbs; two sisters, Helen Pullen and Jayne Gibbs; two brothers, Walter Gibbs, Jr., and Charles Ray Gibbs; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Gibbs.
