Obituary of Lillian Duke Yates

Obituary Notice Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian D. Yates, will be held, 2:00 pm, Friday, October 30, 2009 from the Harmony Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Wendell Ford officiating. Mrs. Yates will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Providence Baptist Church cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009. Mrs. Yates died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Yates is survived by one daughter, Kathy Maples of Carrollton; one son, Wayne Yates of Woodland; one sister, Frances Freeman of Gulf Port, MS; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Yates, Austin Yates, Jarrod Curry, Chad Whitmore, Aaron Collins, Harry Patterson and Greg East. Mrs. Yates was born October 19, 1924, the daughter of Henry and Julia Arrington Duke. She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church and had been a seamstress for Sewell Manufacturing. Mrs. Yates was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell F. Yates; her parents; one brother, Heddie Duke; one grandson, Jarrod Maples; one half-sister, Letha Mae Brown.
