Funeral services for Mary Scarlet “Sissy” Heard, age 74, of Woodland will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Big Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Hannah and Bro. Scott Whaley officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.  Mrs. Heard will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Thursday.

Mrs. Heard passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama.

Survivors include: one sister, Berna McNeal (Frankie) of Franklin, GA; one brother, Donnie Spradlin of Woodland; and one sister-in-law, Agnes Hendrix of Roanoke.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Farmer, Roger Maddox, Stephen Farlow, Keith Smith, Frankie McNeal, and Tim Noles.  E. J. Farlow will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

A Woodland native, Mrs. Heard was born on April 6, 1949, the daughter of Herman R. and Nellie Maddox Hendrix.  She was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church and worked as a seamstress for Palm Beach.  Mrs. Heard was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tommy Heard; two brothers, Billy Wayne Hendrix and Danny Spradlin; stepfather, Robert Spradlin; and two special friends, Tempie Mitchell and Cleola Gunn.
