Obituary

Funeral services for Carolyn Jean Smith, age 75, of Roanoke will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Big Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Hannah and Bro. Scott Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 18. Mrs. Smith will lie in state at the church for one hour before services begin on Thursday.

Mrs. Smith passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at her home.

Survivors include: her husband, Larry Smith; daughter, Teresa Smith (Tony Masdon) of Roanoke; son, Keith Smith (Pamela) of Woodland; six grandchildren, Kolby Smith (Makayla), Korey Smith Pijenburg (Trenton), Cassie Smith, Baylee Masdon, Braeson Masdon, and Tyler Heard; and three great-grandchildren, Kace Smith, Baylor Pijenburg, and Alaya Masdon.

Pallbearers will be Kolby Smith, Tim Noles, CJ Burk, Justin Burk, Jamie Smith, Randal Smith, Tony Smith, Eddie Ray Smith.

A Roanoke native, Mrs. Smith was born on March 25, 1949, the daughter of Frank and Lois Prestridge Heard. She was Christian by faith and was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and later worked at Huey’s in New Hope. She loved her family and her community and was known for her cooking abilities. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Bobby Jack Heard, Jathan Heard, Tommy Heard, Tenna Noles, and Marilyn Bailey; and a great-granddaughter, Karter Blair Smith.
