Obituary of Carrie Lee Mitchell

Funeral services for Carrie Lee Mitchell, age 89, of Newell will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM from Jordan Chapel Church with Bro. Phillip Waits and Bro. Chris Mitchell officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Mrs. Mitchell passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Roanoke Healthcare.

She is survived by two sons, Alan and wife Katrina and Chris and wife Donna; four grandchildren, Carli Briscoe, Jessica Gaines, Jeff Mitchell, and Ryan Mitchell; and ten great-grandchildren, Gracie, Lily, Joshua, Addison, and Amelia Mitchell; Gracie and Everly Gaines; and Nicholas, Oaklyn, and Eliyanah Briscoe.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on June 15, 1935, the daughter of Alfred Meek and Ina Mae Vowell Huey.  She was retired from Roanoke Home Health and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Mitchell; and two sisters, Louise Cavender and Theresa McCain.
