
Obituary of Charlie Brown
Funeral services for Charlie Brown, age 81, of Roanoke will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Welcome Home Baptist Church with Bro. Harold McCain, Bro. Fitzgerald Brown, and Bro. Ryan Conger officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-8:00 PM on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Mr. Brown will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Sunday.
Mr. Brown passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home.
Survivors include: two sons, Fitzgerald Brown (Kimberly) of Butler, GA, and Glenn Brown (Sheree) of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Roy Levi Brown (Morgan) of Wedowee and Holly Mercedes Peed (Joseph) of Austell, GA; two great-grandchildren, Emilia Rose Brown of Wedowee and Juniper Joy Peed of Austell, GA; one sister, Sheila Ocheske (James) of Carrollton, GA; one brother, Jack Brown (Sandra) of Wedowee; several special nieces and nephews; and special family-friend, Lottie Key of Roanoke.
Pallbearers will be Chasey Brown, Levi Brown, Freddy Boggs, Benjie Johnson, Heath Johnson, and Tony Brown.
A Chambers County native, Mr. Brown was born on December 9, 1943, the son of Walter Glenn and Ruby Jacks Brown. He was a veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard and worked for the Roanoke Telephone Company for 32 years. Mr. Brown was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church where he was a treasurer in the church, served as a deacon, led worship, taught Sunday School, and loved singing gospel music. He also enjoyed yard work. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Brown; great-grandchild, Eden Joseph Peed; two sisters, Lois Owens and Dianne Mitchell.
