Funeral services for Derrell Cecil Kirby, age 86, of Wadley will be held on Monday, April

28, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Soul’s Harbor Baptist Church with Bro. Fred Flowers, Bro. Scott

Whaley, and Bro. Ricky Emery officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Stand

Congregational Christian Church Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of

arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, April

27, 2025.

Mr. Kirby passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Tanner Hospice in Carrollton.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sharon Brown (Kevin) of Graham, AL; one son, Wayne

Kirby (Shirley) of Roanoke, AL; three grandchildren, Jonathan Brown, Ashley Robinson

(Brian), and Amanda Kirby; two great-grandchildren, Brantley Robinson and Raelyn

Robinson; and one brother, Jimmy Kirby of LaGrange, GA.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Kirby, Brian Robinson, Chris Albright, Gary Clark, Kevin

Brooks, Keith Jenkins, and Josh Flowers. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Clark

and Jimmy Clark.

A Roanoke native, Mr. Kirby was born on May 23, 1938, the son of Earmis John and

Bovene Taylor Kirby. He was a member of Soul’s Harbor Baptist Church and worked in

maintenance for the Transcontinental Gas Pipeline (Williams Company). Mr. Kirby

enjoyed golfing, and he loved the Lord and driving kids to church. He was a very Godly

man who loved his family and everyone that he met and was always thankful for all of

God’s blessings on him. Mr. Kirby was preceded in death by his parents and his wife,

Juanita Kirby.
