Obituary of Charles Robert Johnson

Funeral services for Charles Robert Johnson, age 84, of Wedowee, will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Brand, Bro. Ricky Daniel, and Katelin Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM on Monday, May 5^th.

Mr. Johnson passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at his home.

Survivors include: his wife, Merita Johnson; daughter, Angie Johnson of Wedowee; grandson, Matt Johnson; granddaughter-in-law, Katelin Johnson; great-grandchild, Madi Johnson; one sister, Elaine Nobbley of Jacksboro, TX; one brother, Rayford Johnson (Brenda) of Lineville; special nephew, David McCain (Terrie); a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Matt Johnson, Nelson McCain, David McCain, Paul Loveless, Jesse Johnson, and Marshall Patton. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Johnson and Katelin Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was born on August 13, 1940, the son of ML “Slim” Johnson and Mattie Crews Johnson.  He was Baptist by faith and had been self-employed in construction as a homebuilder.  Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clayton Johnson,  Barron Johnson, and Douglas Johnson; nephews, Scott Nobbley and Chandler McCain.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Compassus Hospice and his caregiver, Katelin Johnson.
