Funeral services for William Lawrence Edwards, age 92, of Newell will be held on

Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Heflin with Bro.

Randy Morris and Bro. David Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining

cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday,

June 18, 2025. Mr. Edwards will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services

beginning on Thursday.

Mr. Edwards passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home.

Survivors include: two sons, Randal McLeod (Veronica) and Arnold Clifton Edwards

(April), both of Newell; four grandchildren Seth Edwards (Brittney), Essie Gober, Nicole

McLeod, and Jacob McLeod (Morgan); one great-grandchild, Morgan Mae McLeod; one

sister, Ellen Rhodes; and one brother, Billy Edwards (Stella) of Newell.

Pallbearers will be Buddy Holloway, Joe Mote, Wendell Shelton, Dustin Shelton,

Tommy Herren and Wayne Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Neil Harrington, Gary

Edwards, Phillip Roberts, Elton Akins, Tim King, and Danny White.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Edwards was born on February 2, 1933, the son of

Arnold Edwards, Dale Boyd, and Lucille Edwards. He was a member of Pleasant Hill

Baptist Church and Herren’s Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Edwards worked as a cattle

farmer and was a member of the Randolph County Cattlemen's Association. He was

married to the love of his life for 49 years. Mr. Edwards loved to travel and go on

vacation. He loved his community and neighbors, never met a stranger, and was

affectionately known as “the egg man.” Farming was a hobby for him as well as his job.

Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Edwards; a son,

William Stanford Edwards; and a sister, Melba Grizzard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the cemetery fund at

Harmony Primitive Baptist Church in the Abernathy community.
