Sherre and I became friends while watching our daughters take dancing lessons in Lanett from Ms. Julia. That was in the early 70’s. Both of us being artists, we quickly started making our plans to create an arts group. That turned out to be “The Valley Arts Guild”, we were also involved in “Painted Rock”. Another passion of ours was to go to estate sales and yard sales. Sherre had such a keen eye for a true treasure ! We managed to find many over the years. We would call them our “Adventures”, because there were always little side trips involving visiting friends, finding a great cemetery to explore and of course a cool off the beaten path place to eat. We always had a thoroughly fun and enjoyable time. Often I would just drop by and sit at her kitchen table with her over a cup of iced tea. I never did get her to drink coffee, and she never convinced me to drink “sweet tea”… but we always had plenty to discuss and laugh over … she was a very talented, highly creative and very intelligent woman. Sherre was also a very kind and caring soul, who loved her family dearly and deeply… was so very, very proud about her Vanessa and Millie. She always lit up when talking about them. Most will remember her for her incredible talent. I feel privileged to have known her also for her great kindness and sense of humor and our great friendship. I’m looking forward to even grander adventures when I see you again.

Sherre was of the most talented and kindest women I have known. It was a privilege to have lived near her in Lanett and get to know her as a friend and see her working on some of her watercolors/art. I have had several paintings hanging in my home for decades and think of her fondly whenever I see them. Like Sherre, they are treasures. Love and sympathy to Vanessa, Jack and Millie.

I’m so saddened to hear of Sheree’s passing. One of the most anticipated times for the Cantrell family in the 70’s and 80’s was to visit the Sorrells. Mike and Sheree were the coolest, most talented people we knew, and Vanessa was following in their coolness path.
I would love going to Sheree’s store, Earth Clothes, on the triangle in Lanett. She sold her intricate handmade macrame jewelry, original artwork and hippie style clothing that, before her, you would have to drive to Atlanta for. It always smelled like patchouli.
When we visited the house, Mike and Sonny spent hours spinning vinyl and telling tales. Sheree would show me her latest paintings, the current craft she was mastering, her garden and her cats. Vanessa would entertain Christy and Cady with her many and varied interests.
We aspired to be just like the Sorrells.
We loved you Sheree. And Mike. We hold you in our hearts, Vanessa
