Funeral services for James “Ray” Rogers, age 81, of Woodland, will be held at 2:00 CST pm on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Zion Baptist Church with Rev. David Daniel officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am to 12:00 CST pm on Tuesday. Mr. Rogers will also lie in state from 12:30 pm CST at Zion prior to funeral services beginning at 2:00 pm CST.
Mr. Rogers passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.
Survivors include his wife, Syble Cofield Rogers; one daughter, Rhonda Walker (Jerry) of Roanoke; one son, Randy Akins (Jackie) of Graham; four grandchildren, Brad Koehler of Newell, Jacob Walker of Atlanta, Jaide Bailey (Andrew) of Woodland, and Jared Walker of Roanoke; two great-grandchildren, Raegan and Riley Bailey; siblings, Emmie Lou Todd (Richard) of Roopville, Mark Rogers (Brenda) of Bowdon, Susan Lee (Ronnie) of Carrollton, and Timothy Rogers of Roopville; a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Jared Walker, Jacob Walker, Jerry Walker, Randy Todd, Chris Rogers, Andrew Bailey, Randy Akins, and Zachary Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was born November 28, 1943, the son of James Noah Rogers and Myric Barker Rogers. He served in the United States Army and retired from Sewell’s. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Rogers loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was an avid gardener, loved jokes and pranks, he enjoyed playing his guitar and music more than anything. Mr. Rogers loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved tinkering and could fix anything. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ellen Oliver.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Benefield Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
