Memorial services for Virginia Laney, age 85, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Warren Wilder and Bro. Tim Whaley officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00-2:00 PM on Saturday before services begin.

Virginia passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at her granddaughter’s home.

Survivors include her husband, Hollis Neil Laney of Wedowee; one daughter Pam Wiggins (Ray) of Graham; one son, Scott Fowler of Wedowee; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.   Mrs. Laney was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

A Wedowee native, Virginia was born on October 24, 1939, the daughter of Guy and Eva McManus McCain.  She was Methodist by faith and worked as a teacher’s aide for the Randolph County School System before retiring.   

Virginia leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and love. Her greatest joy in life was her family—her beloved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more happiness than the sight of her “babies,” whose laughter and presence lit up her world. She would always tell everyone she met how proud she was of her family.

Virginia’s love for children extended far beyond her own family. She dedicated her life to nurturing young hearts as a teacher, substitute, and school bus driver. Every child she interacted with held a special place in her heart. Her impact on the lives of countless students will always be remembered.

 Virginia was also known for her sense of fashion and she considered shopping to be a hobby. Looking polished and fashionable was a part of who she was.

 She is already deeply missed by all who knew her, especially by those closest to her, but her legacy of love and laughter will forever live on in the many lives she touched.
