Born on December 6, 1935, to Shelley and Addie McCord Lipham, Billy Fred lived a life marked by unwavering faith, tireless dedication, and quiet strength. A lifelong resident of Newell, AL, Billy Fred worked 25 years at Lamar Manufacturing and for more than 50 years was a cattle and poultry farmer who worked the land with grace and gratitude. His hands bore the story of hard work, and his heart held a love for the land that ran as deep as his roots.

Billy Fred was a Christian. For decades, he faithfully served as a church deacon and Sunday school teacher at Harmony Congregational Methodist Church where he was a member. He also served with Gideons International. His faith was steadfast, his prayers sincere, and his counsel comforting to many who sought his guidance.

He chose to give back to his community in profound ways. As a founding member of Newell Volunteer Fire Department, Billy Fred stood ready to protect his neighbors, never hesitating to answer the call in times of need. He had received the Randolph County Firefighter of the Year award, Lifetime  Achievement Award and a Special Commendation from the Governor for Acts of Heroism by rescuing a trapped victim from a burning home. Billy Fred was a past member of the Randolph County Extension Advisory Board,  past President of Randolph County ALFA Farmers Federation, and was a member of the Randolph County Cattlemen’s Association.

Above all, Billy Fred was a family man. He was a devoted husband to his wife Delane Butler Lipham, a cherished father to children Joey Lipham and Jerolene Lipham East (Greg), a proud grandfather to Nicole Gowens (Josh) and Noelle McCain (Colton), and great-grandfather to Paxton Gowens, Parker Gowens, Pazlyn Gowens and Lydia McCain. He had a steady presence whose quiet laugh, firm handshake, and warm hugs will be missed beyond words. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and service. In fields he once walked and pews he once filled, his memory will live on.

He was preceded in death by his son Joey Lipham, son-in-law Greg East, parents Shelley and Addie McCord Lipham, and seven siblings.

Thank you to caregivers Kim, Lisa, Rita, Eris, Sue Nell, and Amanda and Southern Care New Beacon Hospice employees for loving him and caring for him as his health declined. Thank you to friends and neighbors who have brought food and prayed for the family during this time.

Memorials may be floral or donations be made to Harmony Congregational Methodist Church or Newell Volunteer Fire Department.
