Graveside services for Merita L. Johnson, age 80, of Wedowee will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 3:30 PM at Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Ricky Daniel officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-3:00 PM on Monday before services begin.

Mrs. Johnson passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Alabama.

Survivors include: one daughter, Angie Johnson of Wedowee; one grandchild, Matt Johnson and granddaughter-in-law, Katelin Johnson; one great-grandchild, Madi Johnson; one sister, Linda McCain (Nelson) of Wedowee; three brothers, Earl Loveless and Richard Loveless (Rhonda), both of Wedowee, and Jerry Loveless (Carolyn) of Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Paul Loveless, Marshall Patton, Nelson McCain, Jimmy Brand, Justin Taylor, and Jesse Johnson.

A Cleburne County native, Mrs. Johnson was born on May 30, 1945, the daughter of Ewell and Annie Melinda Benefield Loveless.  She was Baptist by faith and was a homemaker.  Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Johnson; a sister, Colene Campbell; a brother, William Loveless; and a special nephew, Chandler McCain.
