Funeral services for Omer Joyce Pierson, age 75, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Pastor Timothy Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, September 5, 2025.

Mrs. Pierson passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at her residence. 

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Willard Pierson of Wedowee; five children, Marvin Lee Pierson (Rhonda) of Bristol, TN, Loretta Lynn Pierson of Wedowee, Jacqueline Janel McNeil (Nakia) of Tallassee, AL, Jennifer Ann Pierson of Wedowee, and Terry Wade Pierson of Wedowee; 15 grandchildren, Marvin Lee Pierson, JR., Jeffery J. A. Henderson, Jontavion B. Henderson, Jocyeline N. Henderson, Andre L. Stehr, Emmanuel J. Deel, Zion S. Deel, Josiaha J. Pierson, M. J. Pierson, Christopher Pierson, Chastain Pierson, Mikey Pierson, Chase Williams, Jazzorah Pierson, and Q Pierson; six great-grandchildren; Mama P’s girls, Gloria Wright and Linda Rowland; and five sisters, Bobbie Nell Horton, Annie Lee Ackles, Margaret Robinson, Sarah West, and Dorothy Nunn.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Pierson’s nephews and grandsons.

A Gadsden native, Mrs. Pierson was born on July 15, 1950, the daughter of Willie Calvin and Betty Lou Thornton Garrett.  She was a member of East Roanoke Pure Holiness Church of God and was a homemaker.  Mrs. Pierson loved flowers, cooking and canning, and bringing people together.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Clarence Garrett, William Garrett, Larry Garrett, Willie Mae Garrett, Gloria Jean Dixon, Mattie Jo Thomas, and granddaughter Elizabeth Pierson.
