Funeral services for Carolyn Sue Shelnutt, age 81, of Roanoke will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Bro. Tim Whaley officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Church of Christ Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-3:00 PM on Friday before services begin.

Mrs. Shelnutt passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Tanner-East Alabama Medical Center in Wedowee.

Survivors include: two daughters, Suellen Cofield (Mike) of Roopville, GA, and Lisa Gay (Terry) of Roanoke; one son, Jimmy Shelnutt of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Campbell (Ray) of Hokes Bluff, AL; and two brothers, Wayne Wilson (Faye) of Woodland and Marshall Wilson (Marilyn) of Roanoke.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Gay, Clay Gay, Jacob Gay, Brody Buc Cofield, Bray

den Lane, and Chantlee Chappell.  Hunter Henry will serve as honorary pallbearer.

A Roanoke native, Mrs. Shelnutt was born on December 22, 1943, the daughter of Billy Edward and Margie Spradlin Wilson.  She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and worked as a seamstress.  Mrs. Shelnutt was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buck Shelnutt; daughter, Teresa Jean Shelnutt; sister, Diane Basset; and brother, Doyle Wilson.
