Funeral services for Shirley Mae McManus, age 86, of Woodland will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Bear Creek Methodist Church with Rev. Jacob Wilkerson officiating.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.  Mrs. McManus will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Thursday.

Mrs. McManus passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at her residence.

Survivors include: one son, Mark McManus (Anita) of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Jarod Ziegler (Megan), Matthew McManus (Jess), and Madison McManus (Annie); six great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Gilreath of Jackson, GA; and two brothers, Maxie Thompson of Opelika, AL, and Sammy Thompson of Hobbs, NM.

Pallbearers will be Jarod Ziegler, Matthew McManus, Madison McManus, Randy Green, Randy McManus, and Scott Thompson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Daryl Thompson and Tim Shelton.

A Randolph County native, Mrs. McManus was born on December 20, 1938, the daughter of Shelly M. and Verna E. Capehart Thompson.  She was a member of Bear Creek Methodist Church, where she enjoyed all of the different activities, and worked as a seamstress for Lamar Manufacturing.  Mrs. McManus loved cooking, canning, and sewing, and enjoyed being outdoors and in her garden and with her flowers.  She was known as grandmother by everyone and she loved and accepted and made everyone feel welcome.  Mrs. McManus was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hobert McManus; her daughter, Debra Ziegler; three sisters, Betty Jameson, Grace Stone, and Imogene Green; and two brothers, Joe Thompson and Loyce Thompson.
