Funeral services for Coach Max Yarbrough, age 77, of Woodland will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Glenn Prince, Ronnie Prince, and Kenny Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Napoleon Church of Christ Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-3:00 PM on Wednesday before services begin.
Coach Yarbrough passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Wilda Prince Yarbrough of Woodland; one daughter, Melanie Burns (Josh) of Wedowee; and two grandchildren, Molly E. Burns and Joshua Burns, both of Wedowee.
Pallbearers will be Elliot Cotney, Richard Cotney, Chuck Yarbrough, Quinton Blanks, Elton Akins, and Cal Prince. Coach Yarbrough’s retired coaching group will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A lifelong Woodland resident, Coach Yarbrough was born in Bowdon, GA, on March 8, 1948, the son of Lewis Maxie Yarbrough, Sr., and Lottie Harris Yarbrough. He was a member of the Napoleon Church of Christ and was a retired teacher, coach, and administrator from the Randolph County Board of Education and the Carroll County Board of Education. Coach Yarbrough was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Beverly Yarbrough; and two brothers, Charles Yarbrough and Ray Yarbrough.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations in Coach Yarbrough’s memory be donated to the Max Yarbrough Scholarship Fund at First State Bank in Wedowee c/o Bill Williamson.
