Joella, Wilson, Malynda, and all the family I am so deeply sorry for your loss of your beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and cousin. It has been a week now since I learned of his passing and my heart is broken for all of you. He loved you all so very much. I had the tremendous honor of working for him at Apollo for 9 years. I cherish those memories and my friendship with him. He was not only a friend, but he was like a father to me and took care and time to share his wisdom and provide guidance. His love for his employees, his patients, his clients and all those he crossed paths with is truly an inspiration. He believed in me and he is responsible for giving me the courage to pursue a career in the industry. He taught me so many life lessons and for that I am eternally grateful. He was a brilliant veterinarian and orthopedic surgeon. He always offered a hand to those in need, and always believed in the goodness of others. In my time at Apollo I attended the McManus school of labeling (iykyk) and the importance of things being correct and labels being straight on prescription bottles and products. He took so much pride in the hospital and having a place where clients could bring their furry family members and receive the best care. I still to this day repeat some of his “isms”, if you have time to lean you have time to clean. Whenever we were going to be closed for a meeting he would say to put a sign on the door that said “gone fishin”. He did really love to fish. What I would give to have one more conversation and to hear one more laugh. I pray he knew what a difference he made to me and how impactful he was in my life. Heaven gained an angel and although we grieve for him here tremendously, I have no doubt he was greeted by thousands of patients and clients that went before him when Jesus called him home. You will all be in my prayers in the difficult days ahead. Cling to your memories and let those bring you comfort. Thank you Dr. McManus for your giving life, love and friendship. You blessed my life. You will live forever in our hearts.

Doc started caring for my array of pets from bunny rabbits, hamsters & birds since a I was a small child in 1966 to caring for countless dogs in my adult life. He saved one of my dog’s life and that precious pet gave me many more years of happiness. Doc was so sweet and kind and I knew my pets were in the best of care with him. We will miss you dearly!

Doc was my vet for many years, 42 in fact. He took care of my babies and many fosters over the years. He would even meet me at Apollo on a Sunday if I had a sick baby, and there were many Sundays. He was always so kind and generous to me and my babies. You will be missed Doc. Sending prayers for your family as they deal with your loss. Pearl

Goodbye Doc. Didn't have enough time with you, since we only became neighbors in 2023. Thank you for always having a kind word for us in the hallways. Joella, come around for a sunset with those bright orange colors and we'll remember how your Wilson would always tell my David "War Eagle!"

Words are hard to find to describe how much I admired and respected Doc, as we from Apollo always called him. Professionally, he has been my most cherished mentor. I learned so much from him even though it was late in my practice career when we began working together. There is a reason that so many of his clients were 3rd and even 4th generations of families whose pets he had cared for. Not only was he a brilliant practitioner, he had a special way of imparting trust with his clients for what their pets needed. On a more personal note, he was one of the most genuinely kind and uplifting people I have ever known. His stories of growing up in Randolph County were enthralling. He also never failed to have appropriate words of wisdom, encouragement, and pure happiness to share. His good moods were infectious, and his friendship helped me through some difficult times in my life. I will never be able to repay that debt to him or Joella for their understanding and compassion over the years. Joella, please know how much I share in your sadness and pain. I am sending the biggest hugs I can muster to you and your family. He loved you all so much!! Same to Wilson II.
