Thomas Emmett Green, age 87, of Woodland, Alabama, passed peacefully from this life on February 11, 2026. Born on January 31, 1939, to Emmett and Lucy Green, Thomas lived a life defined by faith, devotion to family, and quiet service to his community.
Thomas began his working years as a wholesale flower delivery driver before continuing his career at Roop Wholesale in Bowdon, Georgia. He later worked at Alpine Gas, where he remained until retirement. Retirement, however, did not slow him down. He found great joy in becoming a school bus driver, faithfully driving his daily route and especially cherishing his time transporting the Woodland Lady Cats volleyball team. He spent his “free time” as a cattle farmer and you could usually find him on his tractor cutting hay.
For 66 wonderful years, Thomas was the devoted husband of Shelby Jean Green. Their marriage was a testament to loyalty, love, and steadfast commitment. Together they built a family that was the pride and joy of his life.
He is survived by his children, Glenn Green (Penny) and Rhonda Cofield (Doug); his grandchildren, Zach Green (Holly), Brittney Phillips (Chris), Bethany Johnson (Ben), and Brianna Jones (Taylor); and his eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He loved them deeply and treasured every moment spent with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers, and his son-in-law, Doug.
Thomas was known for his kindness, his caring spirit, and his unmistakably sarcastic sense of humor that could catch you off guard. Above all, he loved Jesus. He was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as church clerk and a deacon for 58 years and lived out his faith through quiet leadership and humble service.
His life was a reflection of steadfast faith, hard work, and deep love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, gentleness, and devotion that will continue through the generations he so dearly cherished.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Green, Zach Green, Chris Phillips, Ben Johnson, Taylor Jones and Joe Mote. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews and deacons of Providence Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Providence Baptist Church with Bro. Ed Halsey, Bro. David Daniel, and Bro. Wendell Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Mr. Green will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Friday.
Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the Woodland High School Athletic Club.
