Graveside services for James Larry Simpson, age 80, of Newell will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 12:15 PM at Pine Hill Christian Church Cemetery with Bro. Scott Whaley and Chaplain Mark Grizzard officiating and Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00-11:45 AM on Saturday before services begin.

Mr. Simpson passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at his home.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Geraldine Whaley Simpson of Newell; one son, Jamie Brian Simpson (Alissa) of Helena, AL; one grandson, James Sullivan Simpson; and one uncle, Tommy Simpson (Nancy) of New Site, AL.

Born on June 10, 1946, Mr. Simpson was the son of W H and Eunice Faye Lawrence Simpson.  He was a member of Pine Hill Christian Church.  Mr. Simpson retired from Southwire where he went from sweeping floors to the manager of specifications and standards.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Simpson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pine Hill Christian Church Cemetery Fund.
