Obituary Notice

Funeral services for Mrs. Winnie Mae Crumpton Murphree, age 100, of Wedowee, will be held, 2:00 pm, Friday, January 28, 2011, from the First Methodist Church with Rev. Elvis North officiating. Mrs. Murphree will lie in state one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Wedowee City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2011.

Mrs. Murphree died, Monday, January 24, 2011 at Clay County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Murphree is survived by one daughter, Sarah (husband Ken) Corson of Wedowee; four sons, Rev. Jon Tal (wife Sheila) Murphree of Toccoa, GA, Wallace (wife Martha) Murphree of Wedowee, Phil Murphree of Nashville, TN, Quincy (wife Dianne) Murphree of Mt. Carmel, KY; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Mrs. Murphree was born, May 17, 1910, the daughter of John H. and Lucy Tallula McElroy Crumpton. She a member of Wedowee First Methodist Church and had been a teacher for the Randolph County School System. Mrs. Murphree was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Hobart Murphree; her parents; ten siblings. In lieu of flowers donations may be made at the First Methodist Church of Wedowee, P.O. Box 151, Wedowee, AL 36278 or SIFAT 2944 Co.
