Obituary of Duward McCord

Funeral services for Duward McCord, age 89, of Woodland will be held on Tuesday, November, 10 2015, at 2:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Dempsey and Rev. Frank Rasbury officiating. Burial will follow at Cool Springs Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM( CST) on Monday, November 9, 2015. Mr. McCord passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at his home. Survivors include his wife, Clarice McManus McCord, Woodland, AL; two daughters, Sharon Heard (husband, Phillip) of Woodland, AL; Debra Gibbs (husband, Alan) of Graham, AL; one son, Danny McCord (wife, Ann) of Woodland; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Alverlene Ledbetter of Carrollton, GA; a niece, Wanda Thompson of Carrollton, GA; and special caregivers, Beverly Shelton, Sharon Morgan, Anne Waites, Shelia Richardson, & Betty Temple. Pallbearers will be Eric McCord, Ben Ingram, Drew Heard, Michael Palomba, Jay Gibbs, and Jason Cole. A Randolph County native, Mr. McCord was born on September 15, 1926, the son of Joseph Patrick and Annie Cofield McCord. He was a member of Cool Springs Methodist Church, a former employee of Anniston Army Depot and farmer, and a mason. Mr. McCord was a Navy Veteran obtaining the rank of Fireman Second Class having served on the USS Biloxi, USS Tuscana, and USS Tappahannock during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Cool Springs Cemetery Fund.
