Mr. Cofield was born December 17, 1922 the son of Millard and Ina Lee Stewart Cofield. He was a farmer and member of Harmony Congregational Methodist Church. Dalton loved children and kept plenty of candy and chewing gum in his overall pockets ready to pass out to any little hands nearby. His hearty laugh became infectious when playing with them. He spent his life farming and enjoyed eating vegetables from his own garden and sharing them with many friends and family. His sweet tooth took great pleasure in a variety of cakes, especially coconut, and all kinds of candy, pies and ice cream. He usually kept bottles of cold RC Cola on hand and frequently took a sip of water from the metal dipper hanging on a little nail over the kitchen sink. Although Dalton only attended school through the eighth grade, his mind was sharp. He was very good with numbers and words and became a regular participant of solving puzzles on the Wheel of Fortune each evening. He drove a truck and a tractor. It was his only way to ride. Taking care of his cattle brought him great joy. He knew the meaning of a hard day's labor and kept a good dog at his side. Dalton loved to take a walk around the farm and never went outside without a hat. He always had time for company and was glad to sit around loafing and talking. He took his last breath at his home on the farm where he spent most of his life. He will be remembered as a good and caring man and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers Daucie, Ray, Ted and Ocie Cofield.
