Funeral services for Rudy Paul Yates, age 79, of Wedowee, will be held Monday, March 4, 2013, at 1:00 pm from First Baptist Church Wedowee with Rev. Cade Farris officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday. Mr. Yates died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Jane Yates of Wedowee; three daughters, Marcia Pidcock (Alan) of Trussville, Kay Bunn (Marvin) of Odenville and Valerie Conner (Tarrel) of Hayneville; one son, Rudy Paul Yates, Jr. (Beth) of Linden; two sisters, Frances Shaw of Montevallo and Sue Benefield of Wedowee; three brothers, Earl Yates of Pell City, Bob Yates and Mac Yates, both of Woodland; ten grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jerry Worley, Tommy Bishop, Jack Gross, James Kendrick, Faye Williams and Jack McKay. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren; First Baptist Church Sunday School class; Woodland High School Class of 1952. A Randolph County native, Mr. Yates was born July 24, 1933, son of Rhudy Payne and Mary Bell Gill Yates. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, a member of First Baptist Church Wedowee and had been employed by Auburn University as the County Extension Coordinator in Agriculture. Mr. Yates was a devoted husband of 57 years and a loving father. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gladys Casey; and a brother, John Yates.
