Obituary of John William (J. W.) Morgan

Funeral services for John William (J. W.) Morgan, age 81, of Woodland, will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 2:00 pm from East Napoleon Church of Christ with Bro. Bill Prince Jr., Bro. Donald Thompson and Bro. Lee Messer officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday. Mr. Morgan will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 pm on Thursday. Mr. Morgan died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Wedowee Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Doris Hanner Morgan of Woodland; two daughters, Debbie M. Messer (Barry) of Wedowee and Charlotte M. Hodges (Clay) of Roanoke; two sons, Johnny K. Morgan (Ann) of Roanoke and Ronnie J. Morgan (Beth) of Carrollton; one sister, Narvell Adams of Newnan, Ga.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ridley McManus, Charlie Hanner, Kyle Morgan, Blake Morgan, Lee Messer and Mike Kirby. A Randolph County native, Mr. Morgan was born August 3, 1931, son of Luna Churchill and Cora Smith Morgan. He was a member of East Napoleon Church of Christ and had retired from Shaw Industries. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Nell Holloway.
