Funeral services for James Richard Estes, age 83, of Wedowee, Alabama, will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.(CST) from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Pennington and Rev. Cade Farris officiating. Burial will follow at Wedowee City Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee, Alabama, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013. Mr. Estes died Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Mareene Dean Payne Estes of Douglasville, GA; one daughter, Julie Bowlick (Tim) of Douglasville, GA; one son, James Richard Estes, Jr. (Jackie) of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Meagan Bowlick, Gibson Bowlick, Clifton Estes, and Lane Parker Estes; five sisters, Mary (Chuddy) Estes Miller, Dorthy Atkins, Maxine Gammon and Sarah Umphrey, all of Jasper, AL, and Emma Lee Brown of Sipsey, AL; and five brothers, J.W.(James William) Estes of Conyers, GA, Buddy (Tommy Marvin) Estes of Arley, AL, and Homer Estes, Jack Estes and Bobby Estes, all of Jasper, AL. A Jasper, Alabama, native, Mr. Estes was born on February 2, 1930, the son of James Cranford Estes and Pearl Lane Estes. He was a Korean War veteran, a member of the First Baptist Church of Wedowee, and had been employed with U.S. Steel. Mr. Estes was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Adell Lay, and two brothers, George Estes and Benjamin Estes.
