Obituary of James William Lowe

Funeral services for James William Lowe, age 88, of Woodland will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. from Bear Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Jacob Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Creek United Methodist Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013. Mr. Lowe died Monday, July 29, 2013, in Atlanta, Georgia. Survivors include his wife, Myrna Elaine Lowe of Woodland; three sons, Jay Lowe of Lilburn, GA, Jeff Lowe of Woodland, AL, and Mitch Lowe of Marietta, GA; two sisters, JoAnn Wilson of Woodland, AL, and Mary Milner of Opelika, AL. A Chambers County native, Mr. Lowe was born on October 8, 1924, the son of Herbert Mitchell Lowe and Mary Ella Knight Lowe. He was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church and was retired from the United States Government where he worked as an MSTS ship captain and Panama Canal pilot. Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Julian Lowe and Marion Lowe. Memorials may be floral or contributions to Bear Creek United Methodist Church may also be made.
