Funeral services for William J. (Bill) Spradlin Jr. age 85 of Woodland will be held Friday September 27, 2013 at 1:00 PM from Grayhill Church of God with Rev. Mark Moore and Rev. Phillip Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Spradlin passed away Tuesday September 24, 2013 at St. Vincent's St. Clair Hospital in Pell City.
Mr. Spradlin is survived by his wife Mable Pritchett Spradlin of Woodland; one daughter Jeannie Huey of Wedowee; one daughter-in- law Mary Jean Spradlin; three sisters Ruth Crenshaw of Woodland, Annie Maude Turner of Mableton, Ga and Alma Jean Richardson of Merritt Island, Fl; three brothers Basil Spradlin and Donald Spradlin both of Woodland and Wayne Spradlin of Lineville; four grandchildren Shelia O'Quinn, Danny Spradlin, Heath (Paige) Huey and Derrick (Brandy) Huey; three great-grandchildren Meghan O'Quinn, Joshua Noonce and Sammy Huey.
Pallbearers will be Heath Huey, Derrick Huey, Danny Spradlin, Mike Spradlin, Ken Spradlin, David Spradlin, Garry Spradlin and Bobby Crenshaw.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Spradlin, James Stewart, Jeremy Stewart and Jacob Stewart.
A Randolph County native Mr. Spradlin was born May 16, 1928 the son of William J. and Bertha Lola Prince Spradlin, Jr. He was retired from the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic serving from 1946 till his retirement in 1966, where he returned to his farm. He also worked as a custodian at Woodland High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict and a member of the Grayhill Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Richard Spradlin, a granddaughter Rhonda Cushions, a son-in-law Sammy Huey and five brothers Marvin, Winston, Horace, Prince and Ira Spradlin.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home- Wedowee on Thursday September 26, 2013 from 5 till 8 PM. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.
