Funeral services for Zelma Stitcher Wortham, age 83, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 2:00 PM from Iduma Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Grove with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, January 10, 2014. Mrs. Wortham will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2014.
Mrs. Wortham passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Memory Lane Assisted Living in Bowdon, Georgia.
Survivors include: three sons, Jacky Wortham, Wayne Wortham, and Eugene Wortham, all of Wedowee; one sister, Christine Hill of Heflin; one brother, Buford Stitcher of Wedowee; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sam Gross, Trey Rayfield, Reid Wortham, Nathan Wortham, Toby Stitcher, Alan Stitcher, and Dale Holloway.
A Randolph County native, Mrs. Wortham was born on January 30, 1930, the daughter of Bryce and Mae Holloway Stitcher. She was a member of Iduma Congregational Methodist Church and was a seamstress at Bremen-Bowden Investments. Mrs. Wortham was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee Wortham; one brother, Jessie Edward Stitcher; and one sister.
The family is accepting flowers or, in lieu of flowers, requests donations be made to Iduma Congregational Methodist Church.
