Funeral services for Johnnie Oren Payne, age 74, of Wedowee will be held on Friday, February 28, 2014, at 12:00 PM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Barrett Holloway officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30-12:00 on Friday, February 28.
Mr. Payne passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Payne of Wedowee; one daughter, Beverly Thorne of Hilton Head, SC; one son, Jonathan Craig Payne of Anniston; one sister, Louise Shelnutt of Rome, GA; two brothers, Freddie Payne and Lamar Payne, both of Wedowee; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Randolph County native, Mr. Payne was born on January 27, 1940, the son of Calvin Lee and Duelalar Holloway Payne. He was Baptist by faith and worked in security for the State of Alabama. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brian D. Holloway; and one brother, James Ray Payne.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to Cherith Baptist Church c/o Tim Brown at 4695 Old Highway 431, Newell, AL 36280.
