Funeral services for Mildred Marie Messer McManus, age 94, of Woodland will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 11:00 AM from Bear Creek Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Henderson and Rev. Jacob Wilkerson officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Mrs. McManus passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, GA. Survivors include: one daughter, Beverly Stewart Chaffin (Jim) of Bowdon, GA; three sons, Roger McManus (Jeanette) of Heflin, Danny C. McManus (Jeffie) of Greenville, SC, and Lenn McManus (Bonnie) of Bowdon, GA; eight grandchildren, Kim Moon, Kathy Evans, Christopher Chaffin, Amy Stewart Parker, Kendra Nichols, Shawn McManus, Tanya VanHoy, and Andrew Stewart; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mrs. McManus' grandsons. A Randolph County native, Mrs. McManus was born on April 12, 1919, the daughter of Jody Worth and Vastie Prestridge Messer. She was a member of Bear Creek United Methodist Church and was a seamstress with Lamar Manufacturing Company. Mrs. McManus was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Garfield McManus; daughter, Eleanor Jean Chaffin; Great-great-granddaughter, Morgan Eaves; four sisters and six brothers. The family will accept flowers or, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bear Creek United Methodist Church.
