Funeral services for James Burlin Meadows, age 82, of Woodland will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 11:00 AM from Harmony Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Wiggins and Rev. Bobby Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-8:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2014. Mr. Meadows will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Saturday.

Mr. Meadows passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at his residence.

Survivors include: four sons, Phil Meadows of Heflin, Dale Meadows, Wayne Meadows, and Pierce Meadows, all of Woodland; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Traylor of Carrollton, GA; and one brother, Winford Meadows of Woodland.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Meadows' grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Rudolph Blanks, Lawrence Edwards, Murrell Burton, Mahlon Lane, Don Green, Eugene Wortham, and Frazier Shirley.

A Woodland native, Mr. Meadows was born on July 30, 1931, the son of Warren and Esther Lovvorn Meadows. He was a member of Harmony Congregational Methodist Church and worked as a farmer all of his life. Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gwen Spratlin Meadows.
