Obituary of Curtis Arlin Laney

Funeral services for Curtis Arlin Laney, age 89, of Woodland, will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at 11:00 AM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at Herren’s Grove Baptist Cemetery with Masonic graveside services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Saturday, February 28, 2015. Mr. Laney passed away Friday, February 27, 2015, in Anniston. Survivors include: two daughters, Elvira Williams of LaGrange, GA, and Arilene Laney of Anniston; son-in-law, Tommy Mize of Anniston; six grandchildren, Roger Williams (wife, Brandi), Steve Williams, Amy Steen Hurst (husband, Brad), Sonny Steen (wife, Emmy), Kirk Mize (wife, Brittany), and Kraig Mize; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nell Young of Ranburne. Pallbearers will be Mr. Laney’s grandsons. A Randolph County native, Mr. Laney was born on May 6, 1925, the son of Arlin and Willis Bell Prescott Laney. He was a loving husband and father and an avid University of Alabama football fan. Mr. Laney was a member of Herren’s Grove Baptist Church, worked for the City of LaGrange for 28 years, and was a member of Sawyer Lodge #93 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 69 years, Laura Y. Laney; daughter, Janice Lynn Mize; son-in-law, Bobby Williams; two sisters, Lois Noles and Mildred Harris; and two brothers, Bill and Clifford Laney.
