Funeral services for Peggy Virginia “Nanny” Hayes, age 79, will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at 11:00 AM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Scott Whaley and Sister Carolyn Hanner officiating. Burial will follow at Highway Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4:30-8:00 PM on Monday, August 3, 2015. Mrs. Hayes passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015, at Tanner Medical Center. Survivors include her husband, Joe D. Hayes, Jr., of Woodland; two daughters, Teresa McDaniel (husband, Kenny) and Kathy Shaver (husband, Tim), both of Woodland; one son, Stephen Hayes (wife, Darla) of Ranburne; one adopted son, David Wilkerson (wife, Cherry); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Hood of Opelika and Sara Jones of Roanoke; and one brother, Johnny Nolen of Woodland. Pallbearers will be Stephen Hayes, Dustin Hayes, Kenny McDaniel, Jody McDaniel, Brandon McDaniel, Tim Shaver, and Timothy Elliott. A Roanoke native, Mrs. Hayes was born on November 3, 1935, the daughter of William and Gladys Nix Nolen. She was a member of Woodland First Congregational Methodist Church and worked for the Randolph County School System as a lunchroom cook. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
