Funeral services for Charlie B. Rampey, Jr., age 90, of Woodland will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 11:00 AM CDT from Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Morris and Rev. Fred Cooke officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. Mr. Rampey will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday. Mr. Rampey passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Memory Lane Assisted Living in Bowdon, Georgia. Survivors include: one brother, Robert Crouch Rampy (wife, Yvonne) of Woodland; nephew, Philip Crouch Rampy of Andrews, NC; niece, Maria Blanchard of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law, Jean Rampy of Woodland; nephew, Todd Rampy (wife, Mary Charles) of Montgomery, AL; nephew, David Johnson (wife, Jane) of Wedowee; nephew, Steve Johnson (wife, Bonnie) of Roanoke; special friend, Jewell Yates of Woodland; and several great-nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Philip Rampy, Parker Blanchard, Todd Rampy, David Johnson, Ben Johnson, and David Sears. A Woodland native, Mr. Rampey was born on July 23, 1925, the son of Charlie and Marvin Crouch Rampy. Upon graduation from Woodland High School, he was drafted into the US Army in July 1944 and served his country in Germany until 1946. He received an Honorable Discharge with EAME Service Medal with three bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. On a beautiful day in October 1950, wedding bell rang for Charlie and Katherine Johnson. They had 58 wonderful years together before she was called home in April of 2008. Mr. Rampey was a man of deep faith in the Lord. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 26 years. He sang in the choir and was faithful in many other things for the church. His love for his church, family, neighbors, and friends was always shown by his deeds and great smile and laughter. After 30 years of dedicated service, Mr. Rampey retired from REA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katherine Rampey; and one brother, Horace Rampy. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to Agape Hospice of Atlanta or to the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Online condolences may be expressed at www.benefieldfhwedowee.com
