Obituary of Alva Jean Arrington Spradlin

Funeral services for Alva Jean Arrington Spradlin, age 78, of Woodland will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015, at 2:00 PM from Mt. Carmel Church of Christ with Ricky Murphy and Mark Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty East Baptist Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home of Wedowee in charge of the arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, December 10, 2015. Mrs. Spradlin will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Friday. Mrs. Spradlin passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Memory Lane Assisted Living in Bowdon, Georgia. Survivors include: one daughter, Shannon Long (husband, Jerry) of Batesville, MS; four sons, Rusty Arrington (wife, Cindy), Kenny Arrington, Scotty Arrington (wife, Christa), and Timmy Arrington, all of Woodland; seven grandchildren, T.J. Arrington, Logan Arrington, Ashley Arrington Skinner, Colton Arrington, Camryn Arrington, Ansley Arrington, and Will Long; one great-grandchild, Brylee Arrington; and two sisters, Brenda Hodge of Crossville, TN, and Katrina Arrington of Woodland. Pallbearers will be family and friends. A Woodland native, Mrs. Spradlin was born on July 14, 1937, the daughter of Hoyt and Vaudie Brown Bailey. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Church of Christ and was a retired teacher for the Randolph County Board of Education. Mrs. Spradlin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theron Thomas Arrington; a brother, Edwin Bailey; and one son, Davie Hoyt Arrington. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to Mt. Carmel Church of Christ.
