Obituary of Cora Irene Heard

Funeral services for Cora Irene Heard, age 75, of Roanoke will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 2:00 PM from the Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Randy Jones and Rev. Tommy Burke officiating. Burial will follow at Green’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00 PM on Friday, January 8, 2016. Mrs. Heard passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2016, at Wedowee Hospital. Survivors include: one son, Emmett Heard of Moulton, AL; five grandchildren, Kari Whitlow, Amy Heard, Casey Heard, Ellen Harmon and William Harmon; and one great-grandchild, Aubree Heard Riggins. A Randolph County native, Mrs. Heard was born on July 31, 1939, the daughter of William Aulcie and Clois Green Kirby. She was a member of Green’s Chapel United Methodist Church and was a retired dietician from Randolph County High School. Mrs. Heard was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne “Boots” Heard; and one son, Robert “Bobby” Heard.
