Funeral services for Gail Elizabeth Wallace Deering, age 73, of Wedowee will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at 11:00 AM from Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Josh Hickman officiating. Burial will follow at Wedowee City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2016. Mrs. Deering passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Survivors include her husband, Ed Deering of Wedowee; two daughters Danna Deering of Carrollton, GA, and Martha Duckett; one son, Scott Deering of Dallas, GA; two grandchildren, Cole and Ansley Deering; and one sister, Carol Strickland (husband, Mike) of Wedowee. Pallbearers will be Johnny Young, Russ Spence, Richard Gresham, Carl Battle, James Kendrick, and Sanford Chambers. A Dekalb County, Georgia native, Mrs. Deering was born on October 6, 1942, the daughter of Earnest and Marjorie Arnold Wallace. She attended Sylvan High School in Atlanta, Georgia, and Auburn University and worked as an administrative professional for Georgia Power Company. Mrs. Deering was very involved in her community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee and the FUMC Choir, Community Chorus, Wedowee Study Club, SWAG, East Alabama Arts Society, and the Wedowee Kiwanis Club. Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Wedowee, P.O. Box 151, Wedowee, AL 36278.
