Funeral services for Lois Mae Moon, age 90, of Wedowee will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Rocky Branch Baptist Church with Bro. Clayton Scott and Rev. Matt Browning officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 PM on Monday, January 18, 2016. Mrs. Moon will lie in state for one hour prior to services beginning on Tuesday.

Mrs. Moon passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Traylor’s Nursing Center. She was surrounded by loving family.

Survivors include: two daughters, Chris Wrye (husband, Ron) of Longwood, FL, and Charissa Smith (husband, George) of Woodland; one son, Keenan Moon (wife, Susie) of Woodland; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gerry Field of Ocala, FL, and Jackie Walker of Beverly Hills, FL; and many well-loved nieces and nephews.

A Daphne, Alabama native, Mrs. Moon was born on May 4, 1925, the daughter of George Warren and Lucille West Cooley. She was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church. Mrs. Moon will be remembered by many as a school bus driver for the Randolph County Board of Education. She was also a great cook, who was known for her butter pecan ice cream, sausage and biscuits, and orange slice cake. She was affectionately known as Granny Lois to her grandchildren, Glen, Christi, Robie, Luke, and Nickie. She opened her heart and home to anyone and had a deep love for animals. Mrs. Moon was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie B. Moon; one son, Tony Moon; and one brother, Arthur Cooley.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Traylor Nursing Home and the private caregivers who enriched Lois’s life over the last four and a half years. Memorials may be floral or donations may be made to LifeChoice Hospice.
