Obituary of Mary Clyde Rice Ussery

Mary Clyde Rice Ussery, 90, of Roanoke, passed Wednesday, March 9, 2016. The funeral to celebrate her life journey will be conducted on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Whites Chapel Methodist Church with services beginning at 2:00 PM and Rev. Stoney Halsey, Rev. Mike Nobbley, and Rodney Heard officiating. Interment will follow at Whites Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. Mary Clyde Rice Ussery, a Roanoke native, was born October 11, 1925 in Randolph County, AL to the late George Dewey Rice and Evie Morris Rice. She was a member of Whites Chapel Methodist Church and a retiree of Milliken & Company in LaGrange, GA. Mary shared an unconditional love for her family and friends whereby she encouraged loved ones to always seek and connect with the joy that may be discovered in the simple things within one’s life journey. She is survived by three children, Sandra Ussery Heard (husband Larry) of McDonough, GA, William Randall Ussery (wife Julie) of Roanoke, AL, and James Faulkner Ussery (wife Karen) of Roanoke, AL; six grandchildren, Rodney Charles Heard, Larry Ryan Heard, Rebecca Kristen Heard of McDonough, GA, William Garrett Ussery (wife Angela) of Childersburg, AL, Kaye Brissel (husband Bubba) of Daviston, AL, and Lee Ussery (wife Candace) of Roanoke, AL; three great-grandchildren, Maylan Ussery, Lane Ussery, and Lee Anna Ussery; two siblings, Opal Waldrep of Roanoke, AL and George Dewey Rice, Jr. of Claxton, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her late husband, William “Bill” Faulkner Ussery; her parents, George and Evie Rice; her sister, Fannie Burke; and two brothers, Charlie “Cecil” Ford Rice and Dewey Albert Rice. Family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home, Wedowee, AL, on Friday, March 11, 2016, from 3:00-8:00 PM.
