Funeral services for Larry Wayne Nelson, age 74, of Birmingham will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at 12:00 PM at Benefield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bob Shipp officiating. Burial will follow at Levens Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00-12:00 on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Mr. Nelson passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Peggy Eason Nelson of Birmingham; two daughters, Libby Hise (husband, Chuck) of Rockmart, GA, Lorrie Knight (husband, Greg) of Kimberly; one son, Brantley Lon Nelson of Birmingham; four grandchildren, Brandon (Linzi) Hise, Meagan Hise, Lauren Hise, and Jacob Knight; two sisters, Betty Jack Harper of Roanoke and June Baldwin of Phenix City; and one brother, Thomas Earl Nelson of Atlanta. Pallbearers will be Roy Benefield, Chuck Hise, Greg Knight, Brandon Hise, Justin Johnson, David Harper, and Tim Harper. A Randolph County native, Mr. Nelson was born on June 18, 1942, the son of J.D. and Bettie McCain Nelson. He was a member of North Clay Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Nelson graduated from Jacksonville State University and worked as a CPA for the United States Treasury. He was preceded in death by his parents.
